Muny Sunk Stables is small breeding operation located just south of Asheville, NC and only a short 30 minute drive to Tryon International Equestrian Center. We are proud to be distinguished show jumping breeders in the US and the only of our caliber in the area. Providing quality horses for the competitive rider has always been a high priority. By specializing in raising and training horses methodically from the ground up, we are ensuring that your youngster will be a solid citizen by the time they are ready for their debut in the show ring.
From years of experience and dedication through competition in not only show jumping, but also in hunters and big equitation, we have the proper basis for providing knowledge to the upbringing our foals in the best capacity possible. By exposing them from the very beginning to many of the things they might encounter at any horse show, we instill in them the coping skills needed to perform stress-free in today’s sport. Finally, you can rest easy knowing that any foal you buy from us is guaranteed to be a well-adjusted and mannered individual.
Further coming from our experiences in the industry, we have learned over the years that without a base of exceptional mares, it is very difficult to produce a foal that will have the talent to make it to the upper levels of sport. Our mares are the precious gems and core of our breeding program, as we believe that breeding for the best quality possible goes far beyond just a mare with a performance record. Genetic inheritance from a strong mareline, heart, athleticism, and correct conformation are just a few of the many ingredients that we look for in a potential breeding mare. The sires of every one of our foals are also meticulously chosen through a very thorough process to find the absolute perfect fit for all of our mares.
Furthering our venture into the breeding business, we have expanded our operation into Europe and own a number of high quality mares for breeding and sport. Our first European foal crop will arrive in 2020.

While a great innuendo for maintaining a business in the equine industry, the name ‘Muny Sunk’ actually originates from our family, going back five generations to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bailey, who owned a 42 acre estate known as Munnysunk - Bailey's Arboretum.
The Bailey's imported over 600 different species of trees and shrubs from around the world, some of which included Nikko Firs, Blue Atlas Cedars, and Korean Pines. Each time Mr. Bailey planted a new species, Mrs. Bailey would lovingly say, "well Frank, that's Munnysunk" and the name stuck. The most remarkable of Mr. Bailey’s horticultural success was the introduction of the Dawn Redwoods, a primeval species thought to have gone extinct over 50 million years ago until a few small groves were discovered in a remote corner of China and a handful of seeds were entrusted to the Bailey’s. The Metasequoia Society officially declared that of every Redwood specimen known in the world, Bailey Arboretum’s Dawn possesses the largest girth, and the majority of botanists confirm that the Arboretum's collection of these endangered Redwoods to be the best in the country.
Preserved and deeded to Nassau County, the Bailey family’s history is very much alive in the spectacular rose gardens, a spectrum of chrysanthemums, an array of rare specimen trees and a perennial garden with up to 100 labeled varieties.
Our family farm continues to honor and cherish the legacy of preservation associated with the original Munnysunk name.
