2017 Recap

It's been quite a while since our last blog post. In all fairness, we have been very busy this year! Between foaling and breeding season, lots of updates around the farm, making new acquisitions and new friends, it's enough to keep one from sitting behind a computer screen.

This season was very tough all around, and I think I can speak for many a breeder around the world. Climate change is among us however we classify it, and it has a huge impact ecologically on animals. That being said, after many, many attempts, we were officially successful in getting 3 of our 6 mares to stay in foal so far this season.

Thus far we have coming for the 2018 season:

Thunder van de Zuuthoeve x Elize van de Broekkant (Clinton x Darco)

Carrasca Z x Cuhr (Up To Date x Libero H)

Carrasca Z x Upereusa (Quick Star x Concorde)

We are still hoping for a Thunder filly, same as last year. May the breeding gods be with us this time. Just as well, we are incredibly excited to have finally gotten our two problem mares in foal to a talented up and coming US bred stallion by Asca Z x Calato x Cantus, owned by Aliboo Farm, Inc. Recently, Carrasca Z competed at the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships for Young Horses at Lanaken, Belgium, making it to the 7 year old finals. He has thus dominated the YJC in the US as a 5, 6, and 7 year old under the guidance of Taylor Flury.

Our biggest success this year, has been the investment of more future breeding stock. This summer, we purchased two extraordinary and unique fillies from Belgium. We would proudly like to introduce Red Rose EH and Philyra LVP Z.

Red Rose EH

This filly is from the coveted Belgian Querly-stam (BWP 34). We have been searching many years now for a mare or filly foal from this line, and now we have found it. And no less than spectacular she is. Red Rose is from the promising young stallion, Kentucky van't Ruytershof. Kentucky is by For Pleasure from the full sister of the sensational jumper, Emerald N.O.P. To top this off, Red Rose descends from the 1.60m jumping mare Carrera de Muze, by Darco and out of non other than the international sensation, Walnut de Muze. Dam, Carrera, has produced thus far international jumpers at 1.60m Caipirinha (Tiffany Foster), at 1.50m J'Adore van het Schaeck (James Peeters), and at 1.45m Demoiselle de la Pomme (Vicky van de Poel). Walnut de Muze has an extensive record at 1.60m under Harrie Smolders, and via ICSI has been allowed to also produce international jumpers herself. From Walnut, you can find not only Carrera de Muze, but also licensed stallions I'm Special de Muze, Falaise de Muze, along with Everest de Muze, Fetard de la Pomme, and Il Est Beau de Muze.

Philyra LVP Z

Philyra is a rare Plot Blue filly out of a young mare by Bamako de Muze (Darco x Jalisco B, son of Fragance de Chalus). She is the direct granddaughter of the super-producing Heartbreaker mare, Uriana van Klapscheut. The oldest offspring of Uriana are jumping 1.60m with some of the most decorated riders in the world. 1.60m jumpers such as Coriana van Klapscheut/Eric Lamaze, Farah van Klapscheut/Haley Elizabeth Schaufeld, and Fenom van Klapscheut/Eliza Lehrman. Furthermore, Uriana is the grandmother of 1.50-1.60m jumpers Goriana van Klapscheut/Pilar Lucrecia Cordon, Fenia van Klapscheut/Marcel Marschall, Indiana van Klapscheut/Annika Axelsson, and Esquina van Klapscheut/Lorcan Gallagher. Most recently, a son of Coriana van Klapscheut - Koriano van Klapscheut - was the winner of the 7 year old final at the FEI World Breeding Jumping Championships in Lanaken. While this damline is still young, it is already a force to be reckoned with.

Lastly, we very recently made the move to OS International so that all of our mares are a part of the same studbook. More and more we are seeing that is less about what "breed" the foal is and more about the service, fees, and what the studbook is able to offer. We are very happy with the customer service and knowledge that Sebastian Rohde provides and look forward to being a part of this new faction of Oldenburg made available to North America. That being said we are also very pleased with how our mares scored during our private inspection at the end of October.

Upereusa (Quick Star x Concorde x Ramiro, Koteusi-stam)

8.0 score Premium mare and entered into the main mare book

Cuhr elite (Up To Date x Libero H x Capitol I, Holst stamm 108a)

8.0 score Premium mare and entered into the main mare book

Elize van de Broekkant (Clinton x Darco x Praefectus xx, Ballkrone stamm)

Nevada van het Kunselhof (Vigo d'Arsouilles x Darco x Contender, TB-25)

That's all for now, but stay tuned next spring for more news!
